About Us
Dedicated Instructors
Cam is the owner and lead instructor for Signpost Training. His interest is in teaching firearms safety and skills to become proficient and comfortable with firearms. Owning and being safe with a firearm requires responsibility, knowledge and practice. Cam believes that shooting can be an enjoyable hobby as well as a last line of defense for yourself or your loved ones. Many firearms instructors and classes focus on the high speed tactical training and teaching you to operate like a tactical operator. While he can teach those high level shooting skills, Cam's main focus is on making new or relatively inexperienced shooters comfortable around firearms and help them to progress to the level they wish to acheive. With over 25 years in law enforcement and 19 years as a SWAT team member, Cam can teach you basic marksmanship and safety, carrying concealed, additional awareness and tactics to a level based on your desires to learn. Cam is a currently certified NRA Pistol and Personal Protection in the Home instructor and can also teach the Idaho enhanced concealed carry class.
Team of Trainers
Signpost Training works with other experienced and vetted firearms insructors. For larger classes we work with additional instructors to keep a safe student to instructor ratio. Our instructor team is experienced and dedicated teachers who have patience and kindness. Our goal is to make your learning experience positive so you will want to come back to keep developing your skills.
Learn at your speed
We teach small class sizes and personalized or couples classes. Many new gun owners have anxiety about firearms and how to use them. Signpost Training believes in helping you feel safe around and using firearms by teaching at your speed.
Course Offerings
At Signpost Training we offer several building block classes. Beginners and inexperienced shooters are welcome and encouraged. We offer private instruction for small to medium groups, couples or individuals. We tailor the training for your skill and comfort level. If you are a more experienced shooter we can focus on areas of improvement or the next steps in advancing your skills with a firearm. Classes typically consist of classroom instruction mixed with live fire and additional instruction on the shooting range. Examples of classes offered are:
Introduction to Handguns - 4 hours ($99)
This is a first steps class to learn about firearms, the four safety rules for guns, how they work, basic operation and marksmanship. You do not need to own a gun to attend this class. We also cover how to select, purchase and maintain the proper firearm and ammo for you. If you have a handgun, we will cover the safe operation and features of your firearm. Students will fire live ammo while focusing on the basics of proper shooting fundamentals and marksmanship.
Firearm Safety and Defense in the Home - 8 hours ($199)
This class also covers basic handgun operation and choices for a home defense firearm. Home emergency planning, decision making and roleplaying will help the students learn how to prepare their homes and families for an emergency or from an intruder. Basic tactics and strategies for searching your home will also be covered. At the range, students will fire live ammo at various targets based on home defense scenarios.
Handgun Skill Development - 4 hours ($99) or 8 hours ($199)
This course is designed to improve your comfort and skill with a pistol. We will build on your prior skills to improve your marksmanship, gun handling, malfunction clearances and defensive shooting accuracy. This is a good class for all level shooters to improve their fundamentals to become more proficient, more accurate and faster.
Basic Defensive Handgun - 8 hours ($199)
Basic defensive handgun is an entry level course for people new to defensive shooting. This class involves drawing and shooting from a holster, reloading and malfunction clearance while maintaing defensive accuracy and situational awareness. Basic defensive handgun or verification of a similar level of proficiency is a prerequisite for Intermediate defensive handgun.
Intermediate Defensive Handgun - 8 hours ($199)
Building on skills taught in Basic defensive handgun is the starting point. Additional skills focus on tactical movement while shooting and reloading, shooting from cover, additional shooting positions and engaging multiple targets.
Advanced Defensive Handgun - 8 hours ($199)
Advanced defensive handgun builds skill and comfort level from Basic and Intermediate defensive handgun. You will get more proficient, accurate and faster in this class. The student will learn additional shooting positions and shooting at distance with a pistol. You will also learn methods for shooting accurately in lowlight and darkness using a flashlight and live fire on the range.
Idaho Enhanced Concealed Carry
This class meets the training requirement for the State of Idaho to obtain an enhanced concealed carry permit. Students will learn about firearms, basic tactics, legal requirements and laws related to firearms and the lawful use of deadly force for defense. Additionally students will be required to fire a minimum of 98 rounds on the range. Completion of this course does not guarantee the sheriff's office issuing an enhanced concealed permit, it only satisfies the training requirement. This course is a minimum of 8 hours. We pride ourselves on exceeding the minimum state requirements to make sure you feel safe and comfortable carrying your concealed handgun. 8-10 hours ($199)
Private and Personalized Lessons
We offer private lessons for small groups, couples or individuals. We will build a course for your specific needs and skill level. Instruction will move at a pace that is comfortable and maximizes safety, skill building and enjoyment. Contact us for information about private and personalized firearms training for you! Even if you are not looking for firearms training, we can provide a personalized safety assessment of your home environment. We will provide a list of recommendations for security improvements. During this assessment we will help create safety plans specific to your situation. We will go over the plan with your whole family, including walking through various scenarios to teach a survival mindset. We will also provide information and tips for keeping your online and social media activity from impacting your personal safety. 2 hours ($49)
